What if ...
| ...you lost your liquor license because you did not sell enough food? |
|
... your hotel had to retro-fit every room with a sprinkler system? |
|
...your SUTA taxes were at least 10% higher? |
| ...you had to provide nutritional labeling on your menus? |
|
...the state did not fund tourism advertising? |
|
|
What have you added to your bottom line since the end of minibottles? |
These are just a few of the many issues our association has been involved in at the State House over the past few years that impact your top or bottom line! Add up the cost or benefit to your business, or better yet, add up what it might have cost if our association was not active in the political arena.
But, as successful as we are, there are more things we need to do to increase our clout at the State House to benefit your business.

One of the most important is HostPAC, the political action committee for South Carolina's hospitality and tourism industry. HostPAC is a voluntary, non-partisan group established to support candidates for statewide offices and the General Assembly of South Carolina who have demonstrated awareness and appreciation of the problems of the business community in general and the hospitality and tourism industry in particular.
HostPAC revenues are generated from HASC members and other supporters who contribute in their effort to make sure pro-hospitality and tourism candidates are elected to public office. HostPAC is governed by politically active hoteliers and restaurateurs who are charged with the responsibility of fulfilling the PAC's mission to "protect, preserve and promote responsive and responsible state government that will strengthen the free enterprise system in general and the hospitality and tourism industry in particular." PAC money does not buy votes, it simply affords access and support.
Members of the General Assembly are continuously running for office. Members of the House have to run every two years, some with both primary and general election opposition. Members of the Senate and statewide offices run every four years. It takes a lot of money to run for public office today and our HostPAC can help candidates that support industry issues.
South Carolina law allows contributions of up to $3,500 per political cycle and company or corporate checks are allowed.

Candidates are always requesting campaign contributions from our association on behalf of the hospitality industry. We need your help TODAY so we can begin making a difference. A lot of legislators that went out of their way this year and in past years to support our important issues would appreciate our financial support in their election campaigns. Won't you contribute something? We have a goal to raise over $30,000 between now and September 1 as all 124 seats in the South Carolina House of Representatives are up for election this November, in addition to Governor, Lt. Governor and other statewide offices that impact your business. We need to make sure candidates are elected that understand our issues and will support your position in the next General Assembly.
