Today, restaurant consumers are more savvy and aware of the importance of safe food handling in eating establishments. They not only want to know that they are eating safe food, but they want to know what you are doing to ensure that this is an everyday occurrence. The South Carolina Tourism & Hospitality Educational Foundation Food Safety Seal of Commitment can help you assure your customers that you are dedicated to serving clean, safe food in your establishment. This program identifies restaurants and foodservice operations that have demonstrated that food safety is a top priority for all of their employees and honors their commitment with a Seal of Commitment. Here’s how you can earn T.H.E. Foundation Food Safety Seal of Commitment: • One ServSafe® certified manager must be on duty during all operating hours. • 75% of the employees who handle food must complete a approved employee level food safety training program, such as ServSafe®. Job title examples include, but are not limited to: - Kitchen Staff: Cook, Prep, Dish Machine Operator - Service Staff: Server, Counter Staff who prep food - Excludes: Hostess, Cashier, Maintenance • In order to qualify for this exceptional award, please complete and submit the attached application booklet, including training documentation and management certification along with payment to T.H.E. Foundation. Recertification Each location will be required to be recertified biannually (every other year from the date of the original submission). T.H.E. Foundation will provide forms to document that operators are still in compliance with the standards of T.H.E. Foundation’s Food Safety Seal of Commitment Program. Benefits of the Program Once you earn the Food Safety Seal of Commitment, your operation will be featured in ongoing multimedia consumer promotions and advertisements, press releases, health department communications and industry events. In addition, you will receive a ServSafe® poster package, a window seal and a wall certificate to be placed in your operation to show customers your dedication to food safety.
